Bereavement and Homegoing

Greetings Metropolitan Family,

Please keep Derick Pierce, Tony Pierce and Family lifted in your prayers in the passing of their beloved father Mr. Preston C. Pierce who made his transition on December 13, 2022 at the age of 97. His wife Delores Pierce transitioned earlier this year, and both were long time members of Metropolitan.

Preston was the oldest of seven siblings, five of whom survived to adulthood. He and his four brothers – Pleasant, Charlie, Harry and Franklin — grew up on the family farm in Surry on Highway 40. His Christian education began early in his life, with his parents, his paternal grandmother, and at Gravel Hill Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir. He worked on the family farm and was a farm manager at age 16. He remained in Surry until 1945, when he left to serve in the U.S. Army. He still owns the land where he grew up.

It was at Metropolitan where he met his late wife, Delores S. Sartor. They were married in 1953, after Delores’ graduation from Howard University. Their union of nearly 70 years was blessed with two sons – Derick and Anthony (Tony).
