Obituary For Alton Louis Washington

Greetings Metropolitan Family,

Please keep Dr. Alton M. and Mrs. Kathleen Washington and their family lifted in your prayers in the passing of their beloved son, Mr. Alton Louis Washington, who passed on Sunday, March 5, 2023. Alton was a former member of Metropolitan and served in the Usher Ministry, prior to moving to the Hampton, VA area. The final arrangements are below.

Alton Louis Washington, 50, of Hampton, VA passed away unexpectedly, Sunday, March 5, 2023.

Alton entered this world on March 9, 1972, to parents, Rev. Alton M. Washington and Mrs. Kathleen S. Washington, and siblings, Dwayne Mason Washington (deceased) and Crystal C. Washington. He graduated from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He completed his course work for a Bachelors Degree in business administration at Strayer University. He had a long career in retail management at Wilson’s Leather and Nordstrom. His most recent position was with GEICO Insurance.

He accepted Christ at an early age, and received baptism at Metropolitan Baptist Church, Washington, D.C. As an expression of his faith, he served in the usher’s ministry there. When Alton returned to the Hampton Roads area, he became a member of Grove Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA.

    Randomly looking up people I knew from my past, and so sorry to hear of Altons passing. Though I only worked with him for a year give or take, I found him to be kind, fair, approachable as a manager. He assisted in moving me from Estee Lauder after 3 dedicated yrs, then and as the manager, though ultimately working for a toxic beast of an AE (H.B.) at the time, to a more pleasant, reasonable position at Chanel…White Plains may not have been his perfect match, but he persevered. My experience with him was limited however good. And that swift change was crucial. So thank you Alton. I do not forget that act of kindness, but more , he knew my dedication and hard work…Sometimes the better people go first sadly and well, Gods children know how the rest goes…RIP Alton, I did not know you long or well, but u facilitated well needed meaningful change that was circa 2008 that made a difference in my life at the time. God bless his family and friends.     Dr. and Mrs. Washington and Crystal, My deepest Condolences to you and the entire Washington Family. Alton and I went to high school together, reconnected at a choir rehearsal in our late 30’s and last year mourned another friend’s passing together. Alton was one of a kind. We may not have talked often but when we did it was as if no time had separated us. My heart truly goes out to you all. May the Peace of God be with you and keep you during this time of bereavement.
