Dr. Sherrill McMillan Duckett is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and Ordained Minister serving as the Assistant to the Senior Minister for Counseling and Family Services.

Dr. Duckett has been actively involved in clinical training, mental health workshops and conference facilitation, child protective services advocacy, and marriage and family ministry with non-profit organizations, churches and parachurch organizations beginning in 1978 in Los Angeles, California. While living on the west coast she was an active part of the National Evangelism Movement that originated at the Bethany Baptist Church of West Los Angeles. As a part of this movement she had teaching responsibilities in the areas of Introduction to the Plan of Salvation and Apologetics as the movement traveled to churches throughout southern California, Nevada, Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Her interest in racial justice and equality has led her to develop a training series on “Implicit Bias and Moral Responsibility” and “ Racial Anxiety as A Mental Health Issue: Cognitive Behavioral Interventions.”

She joined Metropolitan Baptist Church in 1993 shortly after relocating to the Washington, DC area and was an integral part in developing one of the first professional counseling ministries in the city. As Minister of Counseling and Family Services at Metropolitan, Dr. Duckett has oversight of the counseling and family services needs of the church. She developed and manages the Child Abuse Prevention and Initiative that trains and vets all volunteers who work with children and youth. She serves as Staff Minister for the IAMA Counseling Ministry, Caregivers Ministry, Bereavement Ministry, HIV/AIDS Ministry, Adoption and Foster Care Ministry, Marriage Enrichment Ministry, Deaf Ministry, and the Health and Wellness Ministry.

Dr. Duckett received her B.A. in psychology from Hampton Institute in Hampton, Virginia. She began her seminary journey at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California In the Master of Divinity program. She later transferred to Biola University in La Mirada, California which drew heavily from the curriculum of Talbot Theological Seminary, giving her an extensive knowledge base in the integration of psychology and theology. She subsequently received the M.A. in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling from Biola. She later received the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from California Coast University in Santa Ana, California, and earned a Certificate in Theological Studies from Princeton University.

She currently lives in Bowie, Maryland with her husband, retired Police Officer Lowell K. Duckett.
