Min. Gerald Scott
I am a Washingtonian. I was born in Washington, DC in 1985, and was raised in South East DC with my parents and siblings. My father, Gerald Scott Sr and my mother, Andrea Turner, welcomed their last child in the family as the “baby of the bunch”. I matriculated through DC Public Schools and graduated in 2003 from Eastern Senior high school. My family is a church going family with deep roots in the church. My grandfather served as a pastor in Lumberton, NC for 57 years. The culture of church extended to my family in DC where I along with my siblings and cousins grew up and served in church. Between the New Samaritan Baptist Church on Florida Avenue in NE, and the Springfield Baptist Church in NW, I spent my weekends in youth ministry, choirs, and various serving tasks for young people.
I gravitated to music at a very young age. I was always singing, but I became an organ player around the age of 15. I started serving as a full-time organist for local churches and community choirs when I was 16. Music became my dominant form of expression and employment through college and young adulthood. I became a songwriter, producer, and ultimately a gospel artist, singing and recording my own music. God allowed me to have 3 charting singles, 3 full-length EP’s, and create relationships in the gospel music industry that were priceless. In this time of artistry, I tapped into my calling to preach and for ministry in the church.
Throughout early adulthood I began to navigate the cross-space of music and preaching, allowing me opportunities to travel around the country, relocate to different cities, and grow in both areas. I have been blessed to serve many ministries in multiple capacities. Church work has become my primary profession. Recently I graduated from the University of Maryland College Park with a double major in History and African American Studies. My next step is enrolling at Howard University Divinity school in the spring.
I am a proud father of two children; Chloe Renee Scott, and Gerald Emmett Scott III affectionately called “Trey”. As a family man I am grateful for all God has done in my life and eager to see what his plans are for the future of my family and all our endeavors.
