Janel Merritt

Director of the Metropolitan Music and Fine Arts Ministry

While at Howard University, Janel maintained her interest in Business and Fine Arts by attending both schools. Her College of Fine Arts focus was in Vocal Performance while obtaining a Bachelor in Business Administration degree with a concentration in Marketing in 1990. Quoting Donald Lawrence, “A musical director has to be able to function in both the art and business arenas in order to truly know how to lead their members.”

Janel’s musical experiences (gospel, classical and soul) have afforded her to work for and with successful musical artists and producers such as Patti Labelle, The Winans, Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Denise Graves, Richard Smallwood, Patrick Lundy and many others.

Over the years, Janel has secured various opportunities as a musical conductor, developing and directing special groups for notable artist such as Maurette Brown Clark and Donnie McClurkin, as well as organizations News anchor, Leon Harris’s For the Love of Children Foundation as and the Wintley Phipps’ Dream Academy. She has also had the honor of conducting and performing with special ensembles for her illustrious sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, INC. In 2013 she led their 500 voice Centennial choir.

Janel continues to use her personal and professional experience to co-create and share the wisdom she has gain on her walk as woman of faith. She is supported by her loving husband, Lindsey Merritt and their two beautiful children Miranda and Julian. She lives her life humbly declaring, “Please be patient with me, God is not through with me yet!
She continues to allow her life’s work continuously to feed her drive to make a difference in the lives of people.
